I am so happy to share this paleo caramel sauce recipe. I made it with maple sugar, dairy-free ingredients, and a hint of salt. Yum!

I am usually all about salty, spicy, and crunchy snacks, but there is something about this time of year that wakes up my sweet tooth.

Hurray for Maple Sugar!

This year I have been learning to bake with Paleo ingredients. A common sugar option on the paleo diet is coconut sugar. However, I don’t like to use it that much because it leaves a coconut flavor on everything (Duh! ?). There is a time and place for it, but I’m not too fond of it in every treat I make.

To solve that issue, I have relied on maple sugar for my baking. I love that it’s a natural sweetener and that it has antioxidants and minerals. Plus, you only need to use half of the amount called on a recipe because it is sweeter than refined sugar.

Having said all that, sugar is sugar, so don’t go and overindulge in all the maple sugar you can find. Ok, booboo?

Paleo Caramel Sauce

This caramel sauce is smooth, sweet, and delicious. It has a nutty flavor, and the consistency is perfect for drizzling. Don’t skip the first step, or your sauce will be grainy.

Instructions

  • Use a blender to pulverize the maple sugar to a powdered sugar consistency. If you skip this step, the caramel sauce will be grainy.
  • Place powder maple sugar, half & half, butter, and salt in a saucepan. Keep the temperature at medium-low and use a wooden spoon to stir the ingredients.
  • Once the butter melts, change the temperature to simmer or low. Keep it at that temperature for 25-30 minutes. Remove from the heat and pour into a mason jar.
  • Keep the caramel sauce in the fridge. The consistency will remain smooth and ready to drizzle.
