Here are twenty board games to play with little kids. This is a list of the games we play most often with our kids. They are fun and easy to play for ages 3 and up.

Finding board games for little kids can be a challenge. Either your kid is too young and has no attention span to sit and pay attention, or the game is too complicated.

A couple of years ago, we got kindles and decided to clean out our bookcases. We only keep a few of our favorite books. Around the same time, Mike and my son (4 years old at the time) got an invitation to the Dice Tower West board game convention here in Las Vegas. This convention is like a library of board games. You can check out any board game you like and play as much as you want. For three days straight, they played games and found some unique board games to purchase and play at home. Now our once near-empty bookcase is filled with our favorite board games.

The convention definitely has a bigger selection for grown-up board games, but the experience has opened our eyes and introduced us to new games. Now we know to look outside the big box stores for more options. Below are our favorite classic and new board games.

Board games for the little little ones

Stack Up | This game is excellent for helping little ones with motor skills. You stack up the blocks with your hands. As you get older, you use two sticks to make the game a little harder. This game includes some challenge cards that make you do silly things. It’s fun and perfect for kids that can’t sit still. It a cooperative game, and my kids love it.

Codenames Disney | This game is perfect for kids three and up. You give out one-word clues, and then kids have to guess and match the word to the pictures on the table. It is helpful if they know some of the Disney movie characters, but you can get away with other clues.

Hot Potato | Honestly, you can play this game with any stuffed animal, but having the little potato around is a helpful reminder. Plus, you don’t have to sing the song a zillion times, since it plays the music for you.

Sequence for Kids | I love the classic sequence game. This game is rated for ages 3 and up. It’s a strategy game, and the goal is to place four chips in a row.

Tiny Polka Dots | This game grows with your kids, and it’s a perfect game to teach kids their numbers and math skills. There are sixteen options to play.

Work as a team

Count Your Chickens | The little chicks are out of the coop. You need to help Mama hen get them back. You play as a team.

Hoot Hoot Owl | This is a similar team game as count your chickens. You help the owls get back to their nest before sunrise. This is a simple game, perfect for introducing kids to board games.

Table Topics | This set of cards is dear in my heart. We keep it on our dining table and choose a couple of cards each time we sit down for dinner. Instead of asking the kids to eat their food 20 times, we ask them questions about school, animals, and family stories. It helps to start a conversation.

Eye Found It | This game is for kids four and up, but our 3-year-old has no trouble playing it. You have to work as a team and move up the board before the clock turns to 12 o’clock. We rarely win, but it’s very fun, and we keep trying to beat the clock.

Next level board games

Echidna Shuffle | This game is the cutest! It comes with these small echidnas ( we call them hedgehogs). They move around the board collecting bugs from tree stumps, as they move around the board, the bugs find their home. The person that gets their bugs home first wins. This is a strategy game, and its fun to move the little critters around.

Blokus | This game is like Tetris in a board game. You have different shape pieces, and the goal is to arrange as many as you can before the board runs out of space.

Slide Quest | This is rated for kids seven and up. But we play it with our six year old. It’s a little challenging for the three year old. You have a little knight that needs to complete a quest and avoid falling in the tiny holes on the board. This game is about cooperation, and you can help your kids play along.

Drop It | This is one of the first games we got at the convention. It is for ages eight and up, but our kids have no trouble playing it. You drop shapes into the panel. The higher you stack the shapes, the more points you get. If the same shape or color touches then, you don’t get a point. Simple and fun.

Hearts of Attraction |This game is a quick play, and it’s a game of strategy and luck. You throw the magnets, and the more magnets you attract, the more points you get.

Qwirkle | This tile game is super fun. You get points by matching color or shapes, and you get more points if you complete a qwirkle, which is six different colors or all six shapes.

I Spy Dig In| We love I spy, this game takes it up a notch because you need to find the pieces. Each player gets a card with six items, and there is a bowl full of little objects, and you need to find the items in your card to win.

The classics

Connect 4 | Another classic and most in any board game collection.

Guess Who | This game is for kids six and up. I think it has helped my three-year-old form questions and reasoning.

Let’s Go Fishing | This one has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid! A simple carnival game to play at home. Get as many fish as you can and win.

Card Games | I love to see my kids play card games! This set is super fun and is perfect for introducing kids to card games. To help us play, we use these cardholders.

I hope you like these board game options, let us know below if you know of any other board games for little kids. Visit our play page for more ideas.
