This sweet, cold brew coffee old fashioned mocktail is delicious. Use caffeinated or decaffeinated fresh ground coffee beans. Add orange bitters, maple syrup, orange zest, and an optional shot of bourbon, and you’ve got yourself a refreshing twist on the classic old fashioned cocktail.

Cold Brew Coffee

  • 1 cup of fresh, coarsely ground coffee beans
  • Cold water
First, make cold brew coffee. Grind 1 cup of fresh ground beans using a coffee grinder. Use caffeinated or decaffeinated beans. Grinding to a coarse texture will make it easier to filter later. Then, separate coffee grounds in half and pour into two large mason jars. Finally, fill the mason jar with filtered cold water and seal. Let it sit overnight.

Use a French press to filter the coffee grounds. If you don’t have a French press, you can use other ways of filtering, like a coffee filter, but the French press is fast and works well. Next, rinse the mason jar and return the filtered coffee into it. Repeat this step for the second jar.  Now you have enough cold brew to make four to six beverages. Finally, fill a cup with ice and pour some cold brew coffee. Add 3 – 4  splashes of orange bitters and a tablespoon of maple syrup. This dink is good with or without bourbon, so adding a shot is optional. Last, garnish with fresh orange zest.
