Colorful Backyard Summer Party with Water Games
It’s summer, so it is time to stay cool. Here are some ideas to throw a backyard summer party + water games ideas.
Invite
Let’s start with this invitation from Evite. It says it all; cool off, have fun, and have some ice cream. ? The invite is always very helpful to me because I get a lot of inspiration from it, such as colors and moods to match my party.
Fun + Games
To keep the kids cool and entertained you need water games. This whale sprinkler that I found at Target gave me the inspiration for this quick backyard summer party. It splashes water from the top; surprisingly, it splashes water pretty far out. I had to turn it off to take a picture and not get my camera wet, but trust me it works!
The whale is a great start but below are some water game ideas to keep the party going.
- Water balloons – bunch o balloons are my favorite. They are so easy to fill and a favorite for all my parties. I use large tubs to keep them in.
- Pass the water – This is one of my favorite games with no prep required. Line up the kids in two or more rows, then give each kid a plastic cup. The kids in front of the line have to pass water over their head to the kid behind, and so on. The team that ends up with more water wins.
- Balloon Blaster – Use water blasters to push a balloon from one side to another. Some water blasters are pretty strong, so maybe the game can be who can pop the balloon first.
- Bubbles – Bubbles make me happy. so I am happy with individual bubble wands or a bubble machine.
Decor
The decor for this party includes a lot of easy DIY projects, below are some ideas.
Balloon garland
This balloon garland can easily be made by attaching 5 in balloons to a balloon decorating strip, then attach it with tape to your table. I use an electric balloon pump to inflate the tiny balloons. Even though the balloons are small, to begin with, I try not to inflate them too much; otherwise, there is not enough space to set the table. Also, fill in any gaps with smaller balloons or paper honeycombs. Finally, pour some confetti under the garland to complete the look.
Table
The table you see here is a simple folding table. I like this table because you can adjust the height, however, I wasn’t very happy with its original look so I bought some spray paint and gave it a makeover.
To make your own:
- First, find a spray paint that is good for plastic and metal. I purchased mine at Lowes.
- Now, wipe down the table to remove any dust and cover your area with a paint drop cloth.
- Then, coat the tabletop and legs with white spray paint first (Practice how to spray paint on a piece of cardboard, the key is to keep the hand moving and don’t spray too close to avoid paint drips).
- Once it dries do another coat of the white paint on the tabletop and use a contrast spray paint color on the legs.
Extra details
I recently started using washi tape. I know it’s been around for a while, but I have never really used it. I recently decorated these strawberry mudslide pouches with washi tape and fell in love. I used the extra tape to decorate clear plastic cups.
Another recent love I have is my Cricut machine. So, I added a little more fun details to the table with these summer cutouts. Here is the link to my project so that you can make your own.
