Simple Ways to Decorate for Halloween

I want to share some simple ways to decorate your home for Halloween.  For me, Halloween is all about magical creatures, pumpkin patches, and playing dress up. I stay away from bloody scenes because they are too spooky for me, LOL.

Silhouettes

Every year, I start by putting up silhouettes. My favorite are mice and bats. Although, the mice tend to be snatched by our dog; he thinks they are toys! If you have toddlers or a pup, place the cut-outs up high on counters and walls. Use glue dots to stick them to the wall. The trend this year seems to be butterfly silhouettes. I still love the bats, so I will stick to that.

Art

I switch out the coffee table books and replace them with spooky books. One of my favorites is the Death & Co cocktail book you see in the picture below. It’s beautiful and has some great potion recipes.  I also switch out the pictures on the walls and replace them with some Vintage Spooky Art I found on Etsy. As an extra touch, I cover the pictures on the wall with spider webs.

Ceiling

Hang witch’s hats over the table, house entrance or kitchen island. One of my favorite things to hand are these hanging taper candles. You will feel like you are in Hogwarts! I bought two sets to cover the bathroom ceiling, they are super cool and the kids love them.

Add Some Magic

I am a sucker for sensor activated decorations. We have a door bell eye that greets guest. A haunted dancing broom that moves around the house ( I am waiting for the roomba version). We also have walking hands, a headless man on a platter, and a mandrake. It can get a bit loud, but I love it!

Bring in some color

There is a lot of black decor going on here. To bring in the color, I like to add pumpkins, balloons and candy around the house. I keep the candy in mason jars that have apothecary labels on them. If you don’t want to have sweet temptation around, you can fill the jars with plastic critters in water or slime. The kids have so much fun trying to figure out if what is inside the jars is real, Haha.
