How to set up a michelada bar station
If you like bloody mary’s, then you might like micheladas. This classic Mexican drink is delicious and easy to make for a crowd. Here is how to set up a michelada bar station for your next party.
Prep Glass
We host a lot of parties, so instead of buying disposable cups for each party, I like to have glasses that are versatile and durable. Smooth-sided mason jars fit that description.
Prep the glass ahead of time, so your guests are ready to mix their drink.
First, dip the rim of the mason jar in a plate filled with the juice of 4-5 limes. Then lower the glass in a plate filled with Tajin seasoning. Repeat that for all your mason jars.
Tajin is a favorite seasoning used in Mexico. It has a chili base, combined with salt and lime. It’s tangy and not very spicy. You can substitute this with a salt rim, but I would recommend you try it first, besides adding tons of flavor it also adds color to your drink.
Garnish
I garnished my michelada with lime, pork rinds and tamarind candy. ?
The pork rind came in one giant chunk that I purchased fresh from the local Mexican market. I figured, bacon goes in bloody mary’s, so meh, I’ll give this a shot. LOL. If you are not into this, then garnish with fruit such as mango, cucumber, or jicama.
Place all your ingredients in a skewer. If you need to, trim the skewer. I trimmed one inch off mine.

Instructions
Season the glass rim
- Dip the rim of the glass into the lime juice. Then dip it into the Tajin seasoning.
Michelada
- Pour ice in the glass.
- Add a few splashes of the seasoning of your choice.
- Add a few splashes of hot sauce, to taste.
- Pour in the Clamato Juice and beer of your choice. Everyone has a favorite beer for this cocktail, so have a variety of options available. I prefer Modelo on mine.
- Garnish and enjoy!
Beer & Seasonings
Have a variety of Mexican beers available for your guest. I prefer Modelo, but a lot of people in my family like Corona.
Keep a cooler with cold beer and a separate bucket with clean ice.
Also, to make the table pretty, transfer the clamato juice into glass bottles. I also like to remove the labels of the bottles, but if your guests are not familiar with the options, then this might not be a good idea.
Snacks
The skewers will only open everyone’s appetite, so while your guests wait for the tacos have a tray of snacks ready. I was running short on time when I made my snack station, so I picked easy finger food that I didn’t need to refrigerate. Other options are corn on the cob, fruit, guacamole, and salsa.
Finishing Details
To dress up the table, place the mason jars and snacks on large trays. The trays will make the table more elegant and the setup and clean up will be quicker.
Also, use small succulents to separate the snacks and larger ones to decorate around the table.
I found a bugambilia at the local garden center, so I used the pot to brighten up the table.
I hope you get to try this classic michelada cocktail. There are many michelada flavors, but I like to keep it simple and classic. Cheers!
