Recipe to Make Colorful Mini Sugar Donuts
Get your baking gear ready. It’s time to make these cute and colorful mini sugar donuts.
I was going through my baking pans, and I found these cute mini-donut pans. I can’t remember when was the last time I ate a donut but now seems like a good time.
These donuts are super quick to make and are a perfect small treat.
Before we begin, I should note that I use gluten-free flour and barista almond milk in my recipe. You can substitute these ingredients with all-purpose flour and whole milk. This recipe is gluten-free, but not dairy-free since I use butter in it. Either way, they are delicious.

Instructions
Mini donuts
- Pre-heat oven to 350˚ F. Coat your mini donut pans with baking spray.
- Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- Whisk the softened butter and sugar in the stand mixer. Then, add egg, milk, and vanilla and mix again, be sure to scrape the sides. Don't worry if the mixture is lumpy.
- Add the flour mixture into the wet ingredients. Scrape the sides.
- Place a no. 12 piping tip into a piping bag and then fill the bag with the batter. If you don't have these items then, put your batter in a zip lock bag and cut a small hole in one of the corners.
- Pipe the batter into the mini donut pan. One swirl per donut is enough. Don't overfill.
- Place in the oven and bake for 10-13 minutes or until the donuts are a bit golden.
- Remove from the oven and then dip each donut into the colorful sprinkling sugar.
Colorful sprinkling sugar
- Color the sugar while the donuts bake.
- Place a tablespoon of sugar into a small dish and add a drop of food gel into it. You can also use the tip of a toothpick to add the color. Mix completely, if you see speckles, then keep mixing. If the color is too dark, add more granulated sugar to dilute the color.
- Repeat the step above to make more colors.
Cinnamon Sugar (2nd option)
- This option is not colorful, but it is tasty. Mix 1/4 cup of granulated sugar with 1 tbsp of ground cinnamon. Mix and toss the donuts in it.
Cinnamon sugar option
I included a cinnamon sugar option to the recipe because this is probably my favorite way flavor for them. The kids love the colorful donuts, and they are prettier to look at, but the cinnamon flavor is so delicious and a must-try; that is why I also wanted to share it.
These sweet mini donuts are best when they are fresh and warm out of the oven. But, you can store the donuts in an airtight container for a few days. Wait until they are completely cool before storing.
