Here is a quick and decadent Easter treat. These mini donuts covered in Cadbury chocolate dust are super cute. I am excited to share them with you.
One of my favorite things to have around Easter is mini Cadbury chocolate eggs. Yesterday, I made colorful mini sugar donuts, and they came out great, but they weren’t “Easter” enough. So I decided to take the recipe up a notch and cover these suckers in Cadbury chocolate dust. In this post, we are going to follow the recipe below, but to decorate the mini donuts, we are going to skip the sprinkling sugar instructions and use white chocolate wafers and Cadbury eggs instead.
Easter mini donuts covered in cadbury chocolate dust

Cadbury chocolate dust

  1. First, make a batch of the mini sugar donuts and let them cool completely.
  2. In the meantime, place 1 cup of chocolate wafers or candy melts into a candy melting pot and begin to melt. If you don’t have a melting pot, then place the wafers in a bowl and microwave at a low setting in 30-second intervals until the wafers melt entirely.
  3. While the candy wafers melt, place 1/4 cup of Cadbury chocolate eggs in a silicone bag ( or plastic bag) and smash them with a mallet. Try to crush most of the eggs, but leave a few chunks. Then, pour into a bowl.
  4. Now, dip the donuts in the melted chocolate and then dip them in the Cadbury chocolate dust. Use a skewer to poke the middle of the donut; don’t cover the donut hole.
  5. Place them in a single layer to cool completely and then enjoy!

These colorful donuts are super easy to make and such a treat to eat. I use gluten-free flour and barista almond milk for my recipe, but you can substitute regular flour and whole milk if you prefer.

Instructions

Mini donuts

  • Pre-heat oven to 350˚ F. Coat your mini donut pans with baking spray.
  • Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • Whisk the softened butter and sugar in the stand mixer. Then, add egg, milk, and vanilla and mix again, be sure to scrape the sides. Don't worry if the mixture is lumpy.
  • Add the flour mixture into the wet ingredients. Scrape the sides.
  • Place a no. 12 piping tip into a piping bag and then fill the bag with the batter. If you don't have these items then, put your batter in a zip lock bag and cut a small hole in one of the corners.
  • Pipe the batter into the mini donut pan. One swirl per donut is enough. Don't overfill.
    Fill mini donut pan
  • Place in the oven and bake for 10-13 minutes or until the donuts are a bit golden.
  • Remove from the oven and then dip each donut into the colorful sprinkling sugar.

Colorful sprinkling sugar

  • Color the sugar while the donuts bake.
  • Place a tablespoon of sugar into a small dish and add a drop of food gel into it. You can also use the tip of a toothpick to add the color. Mix completely, if you see speckles, then keep mixing. If the color is too dark, add more granulated sugar to dilute the color.
  • Repeat the step above to make more colors.

Cinnamon Sugar (2nd option)

  • This option is not colorful, but it is tasty. Mix 1/4 cup of granulated sugar with 1 tbsp of ground cinnamon. Mix and toss the donuts in it.
