Learn How to Make Allergy-Friendly Meals with These Cookbooks
Here are ten of my favorite allergy-friendly cookbooks. Having allergies or sensitivities to food doesn’t mean you can’t eat anything. In fact, as you familiarize yourself with the new ingredients, you will see that there are plenty of delicious options for you to choose.
Maybe you are starting an elimination diet, or maybe you already know what foods trigger your body. Either way, you may soon find yourself at the grocery store, restaurant, or even your own fridge, wondering what the hell can I eat?
The adjustment can be overwhelming, but once you are used to your new ingredients. This way of eating will make you feel better, look better, and you won’t look back.
Below is a list of all my favorite allergy-friendly cookbooks. I hope you find them helpful and they help you learn how to make great meals for your family. Check out our recipes too.
Allergy-Friendly Cookbooks | Everyday Meals
Let’s start with these seven. The benefits of having these books around are not just the recipes. Each author takes the time to share their own experience with you, which is great because sometimes you can feel alone in this journey. They will also help guide you through all your ingredient options and alternatives.
- An Allergy Mom’s Lifesaving Instant Pot Cookbook | This is the first book I run to on days when we are busy and are pressed for time. You will need an Instapot to recreate the recipes, but you won’t need to do lots of dishes 🤗, because she tries to make all the cooking happen in the Instapot. This mom knows the struggle and has figured out a way to make yummy meals for her kids. Check out her blog Allergy Awesomeness. My favorite recipes are the Chili Lime Chicken Tacos and the Cream-Free Zuppa Toscana.
- Unbelievabowl Paleo| If you are all about eating the rainbow, then this is the book for you. This cookbook is too cool. There is everything here: breakfast, salads, a twist on classic recipes, and even some dessert options. My favorites here are the Super-Packed Smoothie Bowl and the Superfood Salmon Bowl. Check out little bits of Real Food blog.
- The Everything Gluten-Free & Dairy-Free Cookbook | I am not sure why they didn’t call this the bible of Gluten-free and dairy-free cookbook. It doesn’t have many pictures, but all the pages are filled with classic recipes that I thought we would never get to have again. Check out Mama Knows Gluten Free.
- Pure Delicious | This book takes the trophy for acknowledging all the possible allergies out there. For a while, my daughter was asked to suspend Gluten, rice, eggs, and dairy from her diet. This was the hardest thing to do. Rice substitutes gluten in recipes, and eggs are a main ingredient in most paleo cookbooks! 😫 This book is super helpful. Check out more at HeatherChristo.com.
- The Defined Dish | I love this book. It has a bunch of post-it notes on it! The recipes are delicious. If you are interested in the whole 30 diet, then try this book. Check out Thedefineddish.com.
- Against All Grain | There are many books from this author. Danielle Walker’s story is inspiring. Her recipes are delicious, light, and satisfying. This is a great book to learn about what ingredients to have and what to avoid, especially if you are following a paleo diet. She even has a handy cheat sheet to help. I made a copy of it from the book, and I keep it in my kitchen as a guide. Check out againstallgrain.com.
- Love Real Food | One of the hardest things for me to figure out is lunchtime. We are usually rushing and or in the middle of something. This book has lots of lunch, snack options. If you like to entertain, this book has ideas for appetizers, dips, and drinks. Cheers to Happy Hour! Check out Cookie+Kate.
Allergy-Friendly Cookbooks | Desserts & Bread
When I told my daughter she wasn’t allowed to have gluten, dairy, or eggs. She looked at me and said, “but I can still have cake?”. I turned around and said, “Yes!”. I wasn’t sure how I would make it possible at the time, but I found these three books extremely helpful.
8. Paleo Baking at Home | This book taught me some tricks. Many paleo recipes rely on coconut sugar, but I am not a fan. Everything ends up tasting like coconut. In this book, I learned about awesome maple sugar, how to make my own confectioners sugar, and that dairy-free frosting is possible. Check out paleorunningmomma.com.
9. Bakerita | This cookbook has recipes for all occasions. Here I learned that it was possible to have pastries without eggs! Flaxseed is a great substitute for egg. Don’t believe me? Try the paleo chocolate chip cookies. Yum! Check out Bakerita.com.
10. Gluten-Free Artisan Bread in Five Minutes | Last but not least. I never thought I would be able to have a decent piece of bread again. Then, I found this book! The authors of the book have done all the homework, all you need to do is follow the master recipe and be ready to enjoy artisan bread again! This book is amazing! The baguette is our favorite (Use a french Bread pan for best results).
