Decorating with fresh flowers for parties is beautiful but unfortunately, it can be very costly. Luckily you can make your very own flower arrangements at home with a few tools and tricks. Here is how to make a succulent centerpiece.
Here is a quick tutorial for making a flower and succulent centerpiece.
Trim the flowers and remove the leaves from the stems. Place them back in the water until you are ready to begin.
Working with succulents can be intimidating, but it is easy. Keep in mind the size of your vase when you purchase the succulents. 1 – 3 succulent per centerpiece is enough.
First, remove the succulent from the pot and gently remove the dirt from it. Let the soil fall back in its container and save it to replant it after you are done using it in your centerpiece.
Then, rinse the succulent’s root under water to remove any excess dirt.
Now, there are two ways to create a succulent stem. The first is to use floral wire stems and here is how;
Insert one floral wire into the root and another one across. Bend them down to create the stem.
Then, use the wire cutters to cut the stem to your desired length and cover with floral tape.
Now you are ready to create a floral and succulent centerpiece.
However, the steps above might not work if your succulent is too small to insert the floral wire into, in that case, you will need to use floral wood picks. The picks come with floral wire attached to them, wrap it around the succulent and secure it with floral wire.
DIY Time
To begin, choose a solid vase. The foam is not pretty to look at, so it is best to hide it with a solid color vase.
First, fill the vase with the floral foam. Make sure it is tight in the container to prevent it from moving. Use a knife to make it flush to your vase.
Then, pour water on top of the foam and fill the vase halfway with water.
Now, use greenery to line the bottom of the vase, this will cover the foam once the centerpiece is done. There are different types of greenery you can use, but I love using baby’s breath, which is typically used as a filler, but I love it, so I don’t care ?
After that, use the focal flowers to decorate the base. Place them in clusters or scattered them around. As you can see, I added a few smaller flowers around my focal flowers to create clusters.
Then, repeat the step above for the other focal flowers ( in this case succulents).
Once all the large focal flowers are in, insert the smaller filler flowers in all the gaps.
Finally, you can add more filler flowers to the arrangement if you like. If you prefer simple arrangements, skip this step.
Keep the centerpiece in a cool place.
I created this DIY floral and succulent centerpieces for our Succulent Easter Party this year. Succulents go great with the pastel colors of the season. What do you think?
