Sugar skulls are a must-have for Day of the Dead, last year I made enough sugar skulls to decorate my altar and dinner table for years! Surprisingly, the skulls are easy to store, so there is no need to remake them each year. I place each skull in its own plastic bag and put them in storage. This year I used the same sugar skull mold to make Day of the Dead bath bombs.

Another must-have for Day of the Dead are cempazuchitl flowers (marigolds) since I don’t have dried marigold flowers I used calendula flowers instead. Calendula flowers have a similar hue, plus they are great for soothing and healing the skin.

Theese Day of the Deas Bath bombs are a fun twist on the traditional sugar skulls. My kids love bath bombs and this is a great way to continue the conversation about this special holiday and what it means to remember our loved ones.

  • Add the calendula flowers.
  • Spray the mixture with the witch hazel until the mixture lumps together. To test; squeeze the mixture in your hands, if it crumbles, add more witch hazel. If it stays together, then it's ready to mold.
  • Finally, fill the skull mold with the mixture and press tightly. Place a paper towel on one hand and flip the mold onto the paper towel. Place the bath bomb on the counter to set overnight.
