I made these placemats for my daughter’s little mermaid birthday party. I loved the way they came out, so I want to share this quick DIY project with you.

Print on any color that matches your party theme or a color that contrasts your party plates. Lets’ begin;

Paper Shell Placemat

  1. Open the Cricut template.
  2. Switch the Cricut dial to cardstock.
  3. Adhere the cardstock to your 12 x 24 mat and press on the “Make it” option. ( The computer will probably prompt you that the image is too large, but this image will fit on 12 x 12 cardstock, click ok and continue).
  4. Load the tools ( I use a cardstock blade) and load the mat.
  5. Press the Cricut button on your machine and let it do its job.
  6. Use the spatula tool that comes with the Cricut to gently remove the shell from the cutting mat. If you pull it off, then you will curl the paper.
  7. Repeat the steps above until you have all the placemats to decorate your kid’s party table.

These placemats are best to use with the small cake plates. The dinner size plates will hide the design. Plus, I find that if I set the dinner plates, the kids don’t usually grab them to get their food, and they end up being a waste. But somehow they will grab their little cake plate and run to you. ?? How does that work? LOL

Also, I know that not everybody has a Cricut and it might be annoying to see this template, but I recently invested in this machine, and it’s made a world of difference in the way I do my parties. It is worth it and if you get a chance to get one I promise you won’t be disappointed. I am not sponsored by them, it is just a tool that I use in many of my projects.

Well, I hope you make this little paper shell placemat, and hopefully, you tag me on social media with your creations.

Happy shellabrations!
