Candy Lips – Cupcake Toppers
These candy lips are fun and make the cutest cupcake toppers. Mix edible art paint with piping gel to create a lip gloss. Brush it on the candy lips to make them look beautiful and juicy.
Before we begin, let me clarify that in this tutorial you can use food gel to change the shade of the candy melts and Edible Art paint to make the lip gloss. Edible Art Paint is very different from food coloring gel. If you use food coloring gels to make the gloss, you will make a mess and stain everything. If you don’t have them available, use only piping gel, it is clear, and it won’t change the taste of the candy lips.
Candy Lips
- 1 cup of Candy Melts – Yields 5 lips
- 1 – 2 Candy Molds
- Double Boiler
- Toothpicks
- Pink or red food coloring gel (to mix in the melted candy, not on the gloss)
First, place the lollipop sticks in the mold.
Then, use the double boiler to melt the candy melts, stir until they melt completely. They dissolve quickly, so, remove as soon as they melt, if you wait too long, they will clum up and not work.
At this point, you can use it as is or add one drop of food coloring gel to change the shade color. You can make two shades out of one batch. Don’t add more than one drop or the consistency of the candy will be ruined. If you want to have deeper tones, buy the candy melts that match your needs.
Now, use a drizzling spoon or a small spoon to pour the melted candy into the mold.
After all the candy lips are filled, tap the mold gently on the counter to remove any bubbles or use a toothpick to pop them.
Then, place the candy lips in the freezer for 5 – 10 minutes.
Clean the mold with a dry or damp paper towel in between batches.
Lip Gloss
You can eat and use the candy lips without the gloss. But, I think they look better with the piping gel.
Brush each candy lip with piping gel. If you want to add more depth, then brush the edible art paint on the candy lips first, and then apply the piping gel.
As the piping gel dries, it will try to separate a little, so use the brush to put it back in place. All done! ?
Now you can enjoy these candy lips as is or use them to decorate cupcakes. My kids were super excited to find out they could eat the cupcake topper. Usually, cupcakes toppers are made out of paper or gum paste, so this was a great surprise for them.
